Caroline Lucas Tee 2

This week Caroline asked the Prime Minister to get behind her campaign to see the parliamentary authorities stop selling The Sun until they drop Page 3 – sadly he wouldn’t!

Now, she has tabled an Early Day Motion ( EDM) in the House of Commons.

An EDM is a way of asking the Government or Parliament to take action and Caroline has asked the parliamentary authorities to stop stocking the Sun until the Page 3 feature is removed.

The more MPs that add their name the more pressure is put on the authorities!

Please write to your own MP and ask for their support.

If you click on this link anyone can find out if your MP has signed already: Early day motion 253

If your MPs name isn’t there…please, please cut and paste the email below and send it to them. Or if you have more time write your own.

    Dear MP,

I am writing to ask you to add your name to Early day motion 253 which has been put forward by Caroline Lucas MP, and aims to see the parliamentary authorities stop selling The Sun until they cease to show the Page 3 images.

I am a firm supporter of the No More Page 3 campaign which now has over 106,000 signatures, public backing from UK Girlguiding (500,000 members) and UNISON (1.3 million members) and active support from over 120 cross party MPs.

These pictures were introduced in 1970, an incredibly sexist era. We do not think they should remain in 2013. Children should not, when faced with this paper, see pictures of men, in clothes, doing various activities, running the country, for example and then see one huge image of a woman in no clothes, doing nothing. It sends out an unacceptable message about a woman’s place in society.

Please do add your name and let’s see an end to this sort of media sexism in our society.

    Many thanks

    YOU! : )

    Hi all,

Just a couple of technical points about your draft letter in support of Caroline Lucas’ EDM; in paragraph 4 you say “we do not believe they should remain in 2012″ – it’s 2013 now :)

Also Ministers, Shadow Ministers and Parliamentary Private Secretaries generally aren’t allowed to sign EDM’s so you might consider adding a paragraph along the lines of “if you are unable to sign EDM’s perhaps you would write to the Prime Minister expressing your support for the sentiments of the EDM”.

Mr cameron is a closet sexist, like clegg and saatchi and all the males laughing in the house of commons. Racism in the media is banned due to the clear connection of attitude and violence. Sexist violence is refered to as dom violence to remove the connection between attitude and violence. 1 in 3 schoolgirls suffer sexist assault in camerons schools, where are their rights being represented by clegg and cameron and the guffawing, sneering male mps who take our taxes but take no notice of the violence we are subject to by a male media that refers to girls as female dogs?

Completely agree – have seen him tell a reporter that Page 3 is fine, parental control is the problem – just protect your kids from seeing it – what a JERK

Important point: if your MP has ministerial responsibilities, they can’t sign an EDM. You should edit the message to ask them to speak up in support of it even though they can’t sign.

I suggest you update this sentence: We do not think they should remain in 2012.

I’m in the middle of emailing my MP – you might want to change the date from 2012 to 2013!

Done! I’ve just sent a message as suggested in that post. Hopefully that helps, and that disgusting newspaper with their sexist pics will be gone for awhile. I’m seriously surprised why it takes so long to end sexism in media? Why people can’t see that this is wrong?

Do something now – it’s way overdue – or make up for it later

This msg wasn’t meant for our campaign but for Cameron

Just a heads up – there is a typo in the template above – it says “We do not think they should remain in 2012″ – change this to 2013 when you are emailing :)

Get emailing to your elected representatives – mine is gone already !!
